Cindy Clevenger

“One of my favorite parts of Montessori is the curriculum itself. We do not shy away from science and history but capitalize on it as a way to build skills and draw children into the world around them. I love the way it motivates students.“

Ms. Clevenger received a BA in Child Development and followed that up immediately with a year of Montessori study for her Early Childhood credential.  Shortly after beginning her teaching career she moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where she taught for nine years.  She began as an early childhood teacher for The Fairbanks Montessori Association then, after several years and a growing community interest, she received her Elementary I training and launched the first Montessori elementary program in Fairbanks.

While in Fairbanks she got a Masters in Teaching and an Alaska State Teaching Certificate. She came to MMS in 1986 and has been affiliated with the school in some fashion ever since. This year Ms. Clevenger is the “library keeper” and an assistant teacher in Room 7. She also works for the Montessori Center for Teacher Education as a field consultant, evaluating and giving support to new teachers.

Ms. Clevenger's interests include tap dancing, children's literature, gardening, and traveling. Her most memorable trip continues to be a three month trip to Nepal, Tibet, and India that included five weeks of trekking in the Himalayas.
