Ms. Maribeth Brown
My name is Maribeth Brown and it is my mission to help students pass through adolescence joyfully! This quotation by fellow Montessorian Pat Ludick brilliantly sums up my hopes for the secondary program at Maria Montessori School.
“I wish for all of us to be dazzled by our adolescents – really dazzled. They have secrets we are yet to discover and their personalities are indeed flashes of light that ultimately can warm and enlighten us and the world” (Ludick, 2014. p. 159).
I have enjoyed working with adolescents since 1995. I started working with teens at a middle school and high school outreach program and expanded my work with adolescents by coaching cross-country and track at La Jolla high school for three years. When I completed my first graduate program in 2002, I began teaching communication courses at the college level. There I continued my appreciation for young people and greatly enjoyed working with incoming college freshman.
After a decade of teaching at this level, I was introduced to Montessori education when selecting a preschool for my daughter. I fell in love with the Montessori Method and soon began my journey to becoming a Montessori guide! I have now received four Montessori credentials (E1, EII, Secondary I & II), and a second Masters Degree in Education from St. Catherine’s University in Minnesota. I LOVE learning and look forward to sharing my passion for learning with the students every year.
Ms. Jennifer Kennedy
Ms. Kennedy’s educational background includes a B.A. in Elementary Education, M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, and certifications in Crosscultural Language and Academic Development, Computers in Education, and Gifted and Talented Education. Ms. Kennedy has been a public, private, and learning center teacher as well as a private tutor. She also spent several years as a curriculum director for a local Montessori school. Her journey into Montessori began over 20 years ago right here at MMS where she taught and earned her Montessori 6-12 Credential. It is wonderful to be welcomed back to spend the mornings in room 12 with secondary students!
